On day 7 of your Kerala trip package, post breakfast, get ready
for a city tour of Thiruvananthapuram. Enjoy a visit to Aakulam
boat club, Shangmugham Beach, Padmanabha Swamy temple, Museum
Complex, Science & Technology Museum and Veli Tourist Village.
Start the tour by visiting Padmanabhaswamy Temple which
stands tall in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram. This is a holy
temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya
Desams. Tourists are left spellbound at the amazing beauty of
the temple. Fill your heart with the sacred aura and move to the
next destination, the Napier Museum. This museum was built in
the 19th-century and has its own natural air-conditioning
system. This museum has a great collection of historical items
that includes ancient ornaments, ivory carvings, bronze idols,
and a temple chariot. It is also known as the Government Art
Museum and reflects a blend of Kerala, Chinese, Indian and
Mughal architecture.
The Napier museum also houses a zoo in
its complex. This is one of the oldest Zoological Park in India
established by the Maharaja of Travancore in 1857. Spanning over
55 acres of land the park is inhabited by more than 75 different
species such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic lion,
lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri tahr, etc. It is also home to 100
species of rare and exotic animals from across the world.
After spending some time with the wild population, head to the
Science & Technology Museum. This museum has a number of
galleries or exhibitions that feature various fields of science.
There are Galleries on, mechanics, electronics, power and
motion, and mathematics, etc. Some of the interesting sections
to visit include solar energy, automobile, and biomedical
engineering.
You can also visit the Padmanabhapuram palace
which is a fine example of traditional Kerala style of
architecture and regarded as one of the most beautiful palaces
in the world.
Then visit the Shankumugham beach which has a
vast stretch of charming white sand. It is an ideal place where
you can unwind after exploring the bustling city of Trivandrum.
On the beach, admire the beauty of a sculpture called
Jalakanyaka Mermaid created by Kanayi Kunhiraman, an
award-winning sculptor.
Another place where you can spend
some time peacefully is the Veli Tourist Village. Here Veli Lake
merges with the Arabian Sea offering a stunning view. It is a
favorite picnic spot for the locals and a serene place to relax
for tourists. This tourist village boasts of the scenic view of
the shimmering waters and swaying palm trees. You can also hire
a boat and paddle while spotting various impressive sculptures
and admiring the sunset. From your boat, enjoy a panoramic view
of the city.
For the wildlife enthusiasts, the Neyyar Wild
Life Sanctuary is a must-visit place. The sanctuary is inhabited
by 30 species of reptiles, 39 species of mammals, 40 species of
fishes and 176 species of birds. Also, visit the crocodile farm
in the park established in the year 2007.
The bustling city
Trivandrum offers many artificial wonders and one such
attraction is the Marine Aquarium. Famous for its rich
collection of marine life the aquarium also attracts tourists
with its image pearl production method. Admire the pearl images
of the Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, and various Hindu gods and
goddesses.
In the afternoon, you can visit the market to
purchase gifts for those waiting for you at home. You can buy
seashell items, jewelry, clothes, handicrafts, etc. from the
local markets as well as shopping malls.
After the
excursion, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay
at Kovalam.
